We have an exciting career opportunity at our Burnaby Refinery for an Environmental Specialist.
Chevron’s Burnaby Refinery is a modern 55,000 Barrel per day refinery located on Burrard Inlet. It supplies a significant portion of southwestern BC’s gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel and is part of Chevron’s global network of refineries.
As a member of the Health, Environment and Safety team supporting the Refinery, you will steward environmental compliance for air, water, waste, toxics, greenhouse gas and land for all Federal, Provincial, Municipal and Metro Vancouver regulatory requirements. The Specialist acts as a resource to other refinery groups, advising on permit limits, as well as regulatory and Operational Excellence (OE) requirements and obligations. As well, the Specialist performs the critical function of regular interaction and liaison with government agencies.
Typical responsibilities will include:
- Achieves Refinery compliance with all relevant regulations. Ensure compliance is tracked and reported appropriately; provides guidance as required. Advisor for Operational Excellence (OE) processes.
- Ensure organization is aware of and acting on requirements to meet legal obligations for new environmental regulations for all levels of government.
- Prepares and reviews all regulatory environmental reports for agencies - and corporate - as required for air, water, waste, toxics, greenhouse gas and land.
- Works in compliance assurance (CA) to fulfill compliance obligations, help maintain content of register and act as back-up for CA subject matter expert.
- Supports community inquiries with local neighbours, Community Advisory Panel and regulatory officials on pertinent issues, including Odour Management Plan.
- Provides environmental awareness sessions/training as needed. Works with Environmental and Operations groups to ensure coordination of regulatory testing, completion of pre-checklists and scheduling.
Qualifications:
- 1 to 5 years’ experience in a refinery or petrochemical setting
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Environmental Sciences
- Interpersonal/Communication skills: Ability to build effective relationships. Communicates clearly in all directions, both orally and in writing.
- Work Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to concurrently handle multiple initiatives with varying priority and deadlines with minimal supervision. Able to apply a systematic approach to getting results.
- Analytical Skills – ability to process and analyze large amounts of data
- Process Management – systematically coordinates and integrates activities across the organization;
