Accounting Analyst

The successful candidate will work as an Accounting Analyst in our Calgary-based Accounting Department with a team of professionals providing Accounting, Systems and Business Process expertise, in one of the following areas:
Job Responsibilities:
Central Accounting
Corporate Accounting
- Financial Statement preparation & analysis
- Monthly corporate financial and operating management reporting
- Research & develop procedures for handling complex policy issues through proficient understanding & interpretation of GAAP, FAS19 & Chevron’s Guide to Corporate Accounting
- Record journal entries for complex and/or unique transactions as well as routine items. Prepare, analyzes and verify accounting entries
Joint Venture & Fixed Asset Accounting
- Full Life-Cycle Fixed Asset Accounting, including Asset Creation, Depreciation and Retirements
- Perform accounting and analytical month end tasks in support of the Financial Close processes
- Communicate with partners on joint venture billings
- Provide accounting support to field operations, technical staff, and other Finance teams
- Research & develop procedures for handling JV/Fixed Asset policy issues through proficient understanding & interpretation of GAAP, FAS19 & Chevron’s Guide to Corporate Accounting
- Interpret and apply Joint Venture Agreements to ensure cost allocation procedures and chargeability guidelines are followed
Financial Services
- Accounts payable and invoice processing
- Travel Expense report review for completeness, accuracy, and internal control compliance
- Excise tax compliance
- Domestic and Expatriate payroll and pension accounting
Financial System (SAP) Support
- User training and support
- Implement and maintain SAP configuration and master data
- Coordinate month end tasks for the Monthly Financial Close process
- Perform systems controls to ensure compliance with Internal Controls and SOX
- Perform systems testing on monthly changes
- Works with users to determine system changes necessary for process improvements
Asset Team Support
- Liaise with local Business Unit and Accounting personnel to coordinate accurate, efficient, and timely financial recording of operational activities
- Track, report and analyze monthly capital and expense spending as well as production, revenue, royalties.
- Interpret and apply Joint Venture Agreements to ensure cost allocation procedures and chargeability guidelines are followed
- Provide key Finance support for business and strategic planning cycles and initiatives
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Commerce Degree or related, with or currently pursuing an accounting designation.
- Analytical skills: Proven ability to analyze data and provide insightful analysis that illustrates key business drivers and develop appropriate solutions.
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to express thoughts and information clearly, concisely and accurately.
- Teamwork: Highly motivated individual who is able to work in a team environment and work independently. High initiative to learn and mentor others.
- Computer skills: Demonstrated ability at manipulating data with Excel and database applications.
- Industry Experience: A keen interest in both the technical and business aspects of the energy industry.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
