Every part of the Kitimat LNG project will adhere to Chevron’s philosophy of Operational Excellence with the goal of being incident and injury free. Operational Excellence means that at Chevron, we believe all incidents are preventable, and we have policies, processes, tools and behavioral expectations in place to achieve that goal.
Our process for managing safety on the Kitimat LNG project identifies and evaluates job hazards, specifies how to control them and establishes safe behaviors. Supervisors at every level are required to understand their responsibilities and translate those into actions visible to the workforce. We work closely with contractors to help instill safe behaviors and to identify and mitigate hazards. Employees and contractors alike are authorized to stop any work that does not comply with the Tenets of Operation without negative repercussions.
Our efforts to create and maintain an industry leading safety culture include starting meetings with safety moments, tracking progress and rewarding individuals and work groups for strong safety performance, sharing best practices or lessons learned and using behavior-based safety evaluations. Our “Zero is Attainable” awards are granted to eligible Chevron business units, work groups or facilities that complete 1,000 days, or 1 million work hours with zero days away from work incidents and no fatalities.
